Delegation versus handover
| ![]() Delegate task | |
|---|---|---|
Purpose | Handover transfers the responsibility of a workflow task to a different role/user. Handover is used, for example, if the role/user is not responsible and the task is only accidentally assigned to the role/user. | Delegation transfers the editing of a workflow task to a different role/user. Delegation is used, for example, if a different role/user has the proper expertise to edit the task, but the role responsible must be retained. |
Effects | The previously assigned role/user can no longer hand over, delegate, or edit the task. The task is removed from My tasks of the previously assigned role/user and is now displayed in My tasks of the newly assigned user role/user. | The previously assigned role/user (now: role responsible/user responsible) can still delegate or hand over the task but can no longer edit the task. The role to which the task was delegated can edit the task. The task is removed from My tasks of the previously assigned role/user and is now displayed in My tasks of the newly assigned user role/user. |
Attribute | The role who handed over the task is no longer displayed. | The role who delegated the task is now the role responsible. |
